It’s Official

The United States and Japan officially announced the new changes to Japan’s defense and military capabilities. The new guidelines will allow for Japan to come to the aid of allied forces, most notably the United States of America, and even deploy forces internationally to aid allies. United States Secretary of State John Kerry and Secretary of Defense Ashton Carter were present along with Japanese Foreign Minister Fumio Kishida and Defense Minister Gen Nakatani at the announcement. The officials stated that the aims were not directed towards the growing Chinese aggression. Kerry also stressed at the announcement that the United States views the disputed Senkaku Islands as clearly under Japanese control despite that China’s claims to have them under their control. The shift in defense policy will also allow Japan to greatly modernize their military through the United States new military aid.  The new guidelines also represent increasingly rigid alliances which occurred prior to both World Wars.
